Healer cops it over net cancer cure ads
A “PSYCHIC healer” was ordered to pay £2,600 by a court over claims he can cure cancer.
Adrian Pengelly, 43, describes himself as a “visionary healer, energy worker, teacher and psychic”.
His website was packed with testimonials from people saying he helped rid them of illnesses including cancer.
But he admitted three charges of breaching the Cancer Act, which makes it illegal to advertise treatments for the disease.
Pengelly, of Leominster, Herefordshire, was fined £600 with £2,000 costs. His £30 sessions – which involve laying on of hands and so-called “distance healing” – were exposed by the BBC’s Panorama last year.
But after the hearing at Hereford Magistrates’ Court, defiant Pengelly insisted he was “proud” of the offences.
He said: “I am in court for helping people. I have treated more than 20,000 people.
“Trading Standards accept there has never been a complaint against me.
“I have become world famous, both for my results and for my approach.
“Honesty, truth and justice are on my side but the law is against me, so I am extremely honoured and proud to be accused of this offence.”
