Denver police not giving up on cold case murder
DENVER – It has been four years since the murder of Bruce Harrell and the case remains unsolved – even after an anonymous tip shortly after the investigation began. Denver police are still hoping someone has the information it will take to find his killer.
Four years later, his mother still searches for answers.
“He loved life. He loved his family,” Diane Harrell said. “He was a bright young man with a promising future. And someone took that away from him…and also our family.”
On the night of Jan. 11, 2006, Bruce Harrell stopped at a traffic light on his way home. A car pulled up behind him, and two people got out and shot into both sides of his car. The killer shot Harrell six times.
“Well we know that a person early on in the investigation, four years ago, called in with information that led us to I’d say people of interest. And we’d like this witness to come forward. They called in anonymously. I’d like to personally speak with this person, get the entire story that they know. And hopefully they can clear up some things on why this happened,” Detective Jaime Castro, from the Denver Police Homicide Unit, said.
The family hopes this anonymous person will come forward again so they can have the one thing they search for – closure.
“It’s been like a horrifying dream, something that you never wake from. But you know that it’s happened, but you don’t want to believe it, and you have not accepted it. And it just seems so unreal,” Harrell said.
The family wants you to know there is a reward in this case. If you have any information about this case, please call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (720-913-7867).
