Cyber Attacks From China Will Continue, Not Only on Google, But Also on Commercial Banks and Defense Agencies
China’s cyber attacks will continue not only on Google, but also on commercial banks and defense agencies, according to the predictions of the Psychic Twins. With 1.3 billion population, many of them educated, China has outpaced Russia in terms of the number of hackers as well as the quality of the hackers. Although some of them work for the government, many of them formed private hacker groups to launch cyber attacks either for political motives or for commercial interests. China launched sophisticated cyber attacks on Google, as well as “at least twenty other large companies from a wide range of businesses–including the Internet, finance, technology, media and chemical sectors”, according to a blog posting by David Drummond, the corporate development and chief legal officer of Google. According to him, Google found “highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China.”
China, one one hand, with its 1.3 billion population, has millions of educated and sophisticated hackers, with the number of hackers far greater than Russia, and perhaps, more sophisticated ones as well. On the other hand, many of the young people from China are fairly opinionated. Many of them do not like the Japanese, for the Japanese invasion of China during World War II. (Though we try to help by providing Japanese translation services in order for them to understand Japanese culture better). Many of them also do not like Americans picking on China, or selling weapons to Taiwan.
The Chinese government normally does not allow them to protest on streets, nor could they come to the US to voice their opinions. It then leaves only a few ways for them to release their anger. One of the ways is to launch cyber attacks on American websites.
Google came as a surprising target. The attacks are said to be aimed at the gmail accounts of human rights activists. As a result, Google is no longer willing to censor results on its Chinese-language search engine google.cn and would discuss with the Chinese authorities whether it could operate an uncensored search engine in that country. (It won’t happen)
When the Psychic Twins predicted that there would be many cyber attacks coming from China and Korea, I was surprised. The relationship between China and the United States, under the Obama Administration, could be smooth this year. Then, it came the weapon sale to Taiwan. Should the Chinese media “promote” the news to a greater extent, there definitely would be more cyber attacks on American government websites.
I hope Terry and Linda Jamison, the Psychic Twins, are wrong on this prediction. However, it is fairly unlikely because they have accurately predicted the September 11 terrorist attacks of the World Trade Center in New York.
Google is a respected company, and I respect its decisions. However, by leaving China, it will create a vacuum for China’s local search engine giant, Baidu, the so called “Hooligan Search Engine of China”, that some claim that it used unfair business practices to gain market shares. (It also tries to call every person who has a business website in China, and to “encourage” them to place ads on it).
There is little we can do to help. However, if you have questions regarding Chinese language and culture, please Let us know, as we provide Chinese translation services, and we are good at what we do.
